Terms of Service

Effective May 29, 2026

Welcome. By using Muhasaba (the "app"), you agree to these terms. We've kept them short and readable. If anything is unclear, write to zaman.ishtiyaq@gmail.com and we'll clarify.

The service

Muhasaba is a private journaling app for the daily Islamic practice of muhasaba al-nafs — taking account of oneself. The app accepts written or spoken reflection from you and returns guidance shaped by an AI system informed by classical Islamic sources. The guidance is offered as a quiet companion, not as religious authority. For matters of fiqh or serious concern, please consult a qualified scholar.

Your account

You sign in with Apple or as a guest. You are responsible for keeping your Apple account credentials safe. We do not store passwords.

What you put in

Reflections you write or speak belong to you. By submitting them you give us a limited, revocable license to store them in your account, send them to the AI providers listed in the Privacy Policy to generate guidance, and return that guidance to you. We do not claim ownership and do not use your reflections for training.

Do not use the app to submit content that violates the law, threatens another person, or contains material you do not have the right to share. We may suspend accounts found in violation.

Subscription

Muhasaba is free to start, with a monthly limit on entries and certain Pro features locked. Muhasaba Pro unlocks unlimited reflections, voice journaling, and insights, billed via your Apple ID:

Apple, not Muhasaba, handles all billing. Apple's terms govern your purchase. Trials, promotional offers, and pricing are subject to eligibility rules set by Apple.

AI guidance — what it is and isn't

The reflections returned by the app are generated by AI informed by the Quran, authentic hadith, and classical Islamic scholarship. We work hard to make the guidance gentle, accurate, and grounded. We do not guarantee its precision in every case. The guidance is not a fatwa, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for a teacher, scholar, or medical professional.

If you are in mental or emotional crisis, please reach out to a local professional or crisis line. The app may suggest this when it detects the need, but it is not capable of providing emergency care.

Availability

We aim for reliable availability but cannot promise zero downtime. From time to time we will deploy updates, fix bugs, or briefly take the backend offline for maintenance.

Termination

You can stop using Muhasaba at any time. You can delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Data → Delete my account. We may terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where possible.

Disclaimer

The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent allowed by law, we disclaim liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Our maximum aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these terms is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months prior to the claim.

Changes

If we change these terms materially, we will update the effective date and notify active accounts via the app on next open. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Muhasaba is operated. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
